FAQ

1. Is the SUNQ Pass a valuable option for travelers exploring Kyushu and Shimonoseki?

The SUNQ Pass offers extensive value for exploring Kyushu and Shimonoseki, providing unlimited rides on express and local buses, plus selected ferries. It simplifies travel planning by eliminating the need to purchase individual tickets for each journey. This pass is particularly beneficial for those planning multi-day trips across various prefectures or visiting remote areas not easily accessible by train, offering flexibility with 2, 3, or 4-day options, including non-consecutive use.

2. What are the available types of SUNQ Pass and how can they be purchased?

The SUNQ Pass is available in several types, generally categorised by validity duration: 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day passes, which can be used on non-consecutive days. For convenient booking and a seamless experience, you can purchase your SUNQ Pass through KKday. KKday provides a straightforward online booking process, allowing you to secure your pass in advance and receive an e-ticket, saving time and hassle upon arrival.

3. How does the SUNQ Pass differ from the Kyushu Rail Pass for inter-regional travel?

The SUNQ Pass primarily covers an extensive network of express and local buses, along with selected ferries across Kyushu and Shimonoseki. It's ideal for accessing destinations off the main rail lines and offers flexibility for scenic routes. In contrast, the Kyushu Rail Pass focuses on JR train lines, providing fast connections between major cities. Travelers often choose between them based on their desired destinations, preference for bus versus train travel, and whether their itinerary includes specific rail-only or bus-only areas.

4. What non-car transportation methods, including buses and ferries, are covered by the SUNQ Pass in Kyushu and Shimonoseki?

The SUNQ Pass provides unlimited access to almost all express buses and general route buses operating throughout Kyushu Island and within Shimonoseki city. Additionally, it covers rides on selected ferry routes within the designated SUNQ Pass area. This extensive coverage allows travelers to easily reach popular tourist spots, hot springs, and even remote villages without the need for a car, making it a highly flexible option for regional exploration.

5. Can the SUNQ Pass be used on non-consecutive days during my trip?

Yes, a key advantage of the SUNQ Pass is its flexibility to be used on non-consecutive days. For instance, if you purchase a 3-day pass, you are not required to use it on three consecutive days. You can activate it on your first travel day, then skip a day or two, and activate it again for a later travel day within the pass's overall validity period. This allows for greater freedom in planning your itinerary and incorporating other activities.

6. How does the SUNQ Pass compare to other popular bus passes for traveling across Japan?

The SUNQ Pass is unique in its focus, primarily covering the extensive bus and selected ferry networks specifically within the Kyushu region and Shimonoseki. While other regional bus passes exist across Japan for specific prefectures or areas, the SUNQ Pass stands out for its broad coverage across an entire major island. It's designed for in-depth exploration of Kyushu, whereas other passes might serve smaller, localized travel needs or different modes of transport.

7. What are the general payment options for local public transport in cities like Fukuoka if I am not using a SUNQ Pass?

In Fukuoka, if you are not using a SUNQ Pass, various payment options are available for local public transport, including buses and subways. You can use an IC card such as Sugoca (JR Kyushu's card), Nimoca (Nishi-Nippon Railroad's card), Hayakaken (Fukuoka City Subway's card), or other nationwide compatible IC cards like Suica and Pasmo. Cash payments are also accepted on buses, though exact change is often preferred, and single-fare tickets can be purchased at subway stations.

8. What are the specific services and routes covered by the SUNQ Pass, and how many bus lines can be accessed?

The SUNQ Pass covers unlimited rides on virtually all express buses and local general route buses throughout Kyushu Island, including the city of Shimonoseki. This extensive network spans approximately 2,400 bus lines. Additionally, it includes access to selected ferry services within the designated pass area. This allows travelers to reach major cities, towns, and scenic spots across all seven prefectures of Kyushu, along with destinations in Shimonoseki.
