Huatan Township

The name Huatan Township originates from its former local name, 'Jiadongjiao'. During the Japanese colonial era, the Japanese pronunciation of 'Jiadongjiao' sounded similar to 'inferior guests,' which was considered impolite. Furthermore, the Taiwanese Hokkien pronunciation of 'Jiadong' was close to the Japanese word 'Kadan' (meaning flower bed or garden). Therefore, in the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), it was renamed 'Huatan' and has been used ever since. Although Huatan Township is the largest jasmine producing area in Taiwan, and many believe the place name is related to this, in reality, the name was changed to avoid an impolite Japanese pronunciation, not because it was named for its abundant fragrant flowers.

Currently, Huatan Township has 18 villages, divided into 310 neighborhoods.

Huatan Township is renowned as the 'Jasmine Homeland,' being the largest jasmine producer in Taiwan with excellent quality. Additionally, Huatan Township is famous for its ceramics, boasting a rich history and technology in pottery making. Visitors can experience crafting their own ceramic works.

The Huatan Township Office, Arts and Culture Hall, and Representative Assembly Office are located near Huatan Junior High School, serving as new landmarks in the township. They frequently host art and cultural events, making them suitable for families to enjoy together. Furthermore, Huatan Township offers DIY ceramic experiences, allowing both children and adults to unleash their creativity. It's a great place for both education and entertainment.

You can take a train to Changhua Railway Station and transfer to Changhua Bus to reach Huatan Township. Alternatively, you can drive along Provincial Highway 1. If you are coming from the High-Speed Rail station, you can choose High-Speed Rail Changhua Station and then take a taxi or bus to Huatan Township.
