Gongliao District

Gongliao District is located in New Taipei City, and is Taiwan's easternmost township. It borders Ruifang District to the north, Gongliao District to the west, Toucheng Township in Yilan County to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the east.

Gongliao District has many attractions worth visiting, including Fulong Beach, Caoling Historic Trail, Cape Santiago Lighthouse, Longdong Bay Cape Trail, and Longdong, allowing you to fully enjoy the coastal scenery and hiking fun.

There are two theories regarding the origin of the place name 'Gongliao'. One theory suggests it comes from the Pingpu indigenous language, meaning 'trap', as early immigrants would set traps here to catch wild boars, hence the name. The other theory is related to the local topography or historical events.

Gongliao District, bordered by Cape Santiago, has a submergent coastal topography to its north, where mountains meet the coastline almost vertically. Influenced by the northeast monsoon and erosion, it has formed rich landscapes of capes, bays, and sea cliffs, such as Longdong Bay, Longdong Cape, Aodi, Fulong, and Mao'ao.

Gongliao District attracts tourists with its charming coastal scenery, rich natural landscapes, and unique coastal topography. Especially in the summer, the lively Hohaiyan Music Festival attracts young people to experience the passion and vitality of the seaside.
