We went directly to the visitor center to exchange our tickets. The souvenirs, fish food, and transport stones provided covered all the extra costs for the entire trip, which was great and a great deal.
You can buy food on the boat and feed the ducks and fish. The boatman's stories are also entertaining. The boat is very stable, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent scenery.
Adding a Tohoku tour to Matsushima for a boat trip, grilled oysters, fish cakes, and scallops is a great deal. Just be aware that many attractions close after 4 PM, so it's recommended to leave early. Zuigan-ji Temple in Matsushima is highly recommended. Tateyama-ji Temple in Yamagata is also highly recommended. If time is limited, you can skip the Basho Memorial Museum.
Our tour guide, Xiao Cui, helped us take photos. The weather in August was great, but unfortunately, the sun was too strong.
