The itinerary is specifically designed for a two-day full traverse, allowing for a deeper and more leisurely appreciation of the stunning views along the way. From the highest point, the 'Murodo' area, you can not only admire the continuous mountain ranges up close but also have the opportunity to experience a dreamlike, light-pollution-free starry sky at the Tateyama Hotel, situated at an elevation of 2,450 meters, and feel the awe-inspiring power of Japanese nature.
Riding the Kurobe Gorge Railway offers a unique journey through Japan's deepest V-shaped gorge. The train travels alongside the Kurobe River, with views of primeval forests, bizarre rock formations, waterfalls, and suspension bridges. It's an unmissable experience for railway enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The Tateyama Hotel is situated at 'Murodo,' the highest point of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, at an elevation of approximately 2,450 meters. Staying here allows you to fully appreciate the magnificent 3,000-meter class mountains surrounding you and the vast sea of clouds below during the day. At night, due to the high altitude and distance from city light pollution, the starry sky appears exceptionally brilliant, as if within reach, offering a breathtaking and dreamlike celestial spectacle. It's an ideal location for stargazing.
The best season to visit the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route depends on the scenery you wish to experience. Spring (around April-May) is famous for the spectacular 'Snow Wall' or 'Yuki-no-Otani,' with its towering snow walls; summer (around June-August) is lush and green with pleasant, cool weather, perfect for escaping the heat and for hiking; and autumn (around September-October) is the prime time to admire the mountains ablaze with fall foliage, offering stunning, layered red leaf scenery that is truly captivating.
Unazuki Onsen is renowned for its clear, colorless, weakly alkaline simple spring water, making it a representative hot spring in the Hokuriku region. After soaking, your skin will feel smooth, and your mind and body will feel fully relaxed and healed, making it ideal for recovering from travel fatigue.

You will sequentially ride unique modes of transport including the Tateyama Cable Car, Tateyama Highland Bus, Tateyama Trolley Bus, Kurobe Cable Car, and Kanden Tunnel Trolley Bus. For instance, the Highland Bus will take you through the Snow Wall, while the cable cars offer panoramic views of the magnificent mountain scenery, allowing you to appreciate the natural landscape from different angles.
The Unazuki Onsen area boasts abundant natural resources, resulting in distinctive local cuisine. You can savor dishes made with fresh local seafood, such as various delicacies prepared with white shrimp caught in Toyama Bay, or try Masu Sushi (trout sushi). When staying at the Tateyama Hotel at a high altitude of approximately 2,450 meters, to avoid altitude sickness, it is recommended that travelers move slowly and avoid strenuous exercise to allow their bodies time to acclimatize. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and avoid excessive alcohol consumption. If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness such as headache, nausea, or difficulty breathing, inform your companions, guide, or hotel staff immediately. Furthermore, due to significant temperature differences between day and night at high altitudes, be sure to pack adequate warm clothing.
