It is generally recommended to allocate about 1.5 to 2 hours for a visit to Yehliu Geopark. This timeframe allows you to stroll through the park, admire the famous Queen's Head, Fairy's Shoe, Candle Rock, and other unique coastal landforms, and take photos at various viewpoints. If visiting on a holiday or during peak times, you can flexibly extend your stay to enjoy the natural wonders more leisurely.
Yehliu Geopark is renowned for its world-class, unique coastal erosion landforms and is absolutely worth visiting. It features numerous peculiar rock formations shaped by thousands of years of weathering and erosion, such as the iconic Queen's Head, charming mushroom rocks, the vivid Fairy's Shoe, and Candle Rock. These landforms not only showcase nature's artistry but also possess significant scientific, educational, and tourist value, offering visitors a unique visual feast.
The 'Queen's Head' landmark at Yehliu Geopark still exists and is one of the most iconic attractions in the park. However, due to long-term natural weathering and erosion, its neck is gradually thinning. The park authorities are continuously monitoring its changes and implementing various protective measures to preserve its current state. Visitors are advised to plan their trip soon to witness this precious natural asset firsthand.
Beyond the famous Queen's Head, Yehliu Geopark offers many other special geological formations worth exploring. These include uniquely shaped mushroom rocks, Candle Rocks resembling burning candles, the playful Fairy's Shoe, and Tofu Rocks resembling blocks of tofu. Additionally, the park is home to abundant marine fossils, as well as weathering windows and potholes that demonstrate the power of the coastal erosion platform. Each area showcases nature's craftsmanship and is worth savoring.
There are several public transportation options for reaching Yehliu Geopark independently from Taipei. You can take Kuo-Kuang Bus route 1815 from Taipei Main Station, which takes approximately 1.5 hours and goes directly to the Yehliu Geopark stop. Alternatively, you can take the 'Taiwan Tourist Shuttle' Crown North Coast route from Taipei Main Station or Ximending. Another option is to take a train to Keelung and then transfer to Keelung Bus route 790 or 862 to get to Yehliu. All these methods offer convenient access.
You can purchase tickets for Yehliu Geopark through various methods. On-site ticket counters are available for direct purchase. If you wish to save time queuing at the site, you can also consider pre-booking tickets online through travel platforms like KKday. Booking through KKday not only ensures convenience but sometimes also includes comprehensive tour services, allowing you to travel without worrying about transportation and itinerary arrangements, for a smoother travel experience.
Jiufen Old Street presents a captivating charm at night that is distinctly different from its daytime appearance and is particularly worth experiencing. As dusk settles, the red lanterns lining the stone steps will gradually light up, illuminating the old street in a dreamlike, nostalgic atmosphere. You can wander through the narrow alleys, evoking the fantasy scenes from the movie 'Spirited Away,' sample local snacks like taro balls and grass jelly, or enjoy the distant sea view from a teahouse, immersing yourself in the unique nightscape.
For this full-day tour, guides will primarily offer Korean language interpretation services to ensure Korean travelers can fully understand the historical background, geological features, and cultural stories of each attraction. Throughout the day, the guides will provide detailed explanations in Korean about the unique rock formations at Yehliu Geopark, the cultural significance of releasing sky lanterns in Shifen, the mining history of Jinguashi, and the distinct charm of Jiufen Old Street, offering travelers a rich cultural experience.
