What is the Taiwan PASS High Speed Rail Edition?
Taiwan PASS is a transport bundle issued by Taiwan's Tourism Administration for foreign visitors on a short-term stay. The High Speed Rail Edition puts three tickets into one plan managed in the Taiwan PASS app: a 3-day unlimited Taiwan High Speed Rail pass covering all 12 stations from Nangang to Zuoying, one metro ticket (a Taipei, Taichung or Kaohsiung metro pass, or the Airport MRT round trip), and one scenic transport ticket, such as a Taiwan Tourist Shuttle round trip to Sun Moon Lake, Alishan or Kenting.
Is the Taiwan PASS worth it for a Taipei to Kaohsiung trip?
If your itinerary has even one long High Speed Rail leg, the plan usually pays for itself: the 3-day unlimited THSR pass alone is listed at NT$2,200 by the issuer, and this plan adds a metro ticket and a scenic transport ticket on top. A typical use is Taipei → Taichung for Sun Moon Lake → Kaohsiung with the MRT & LRT pass → back to Taipei, all on the same 3 HSR days. You have 7 days from your first use to finish all three items, so the other two tickets do not need to be used on the train days. Which metro and scenic transport options can I choose with the Taiwan PASS?
Metro, choose 1: a Taipei, Taichung or Kaohsiung metro pass, or the Taoyuan Airport MRT round trip. Taichung and Kaohsiung work by scanning the app QR code; Taipei Fun Pass and Airport MRT are exchanged for a physical card.
Scenic transport, choose 1: Taiwan Tourist Shuttle round trips such as Sun Moon Lake, Alishan, Cingjing and Kenting, the Alishan Forest Railway, regional bus passes, or ride and rental vouchers. Options are updated from time to time; the current list is on the official Taiwan PASS site (twpass.tw/HSR) and in the app after you activate the plan.
Do I need to book Taiwan High Speed Rail seats in advance with the Taiwan PASS?
Yes. HSR tickets can only be used from the day after your HSR serial number is issued in the app, so get the serial and reserve or exchange your ticket by the day before you travel (serial issued on 1/5, earliest train on 1/6). Seats can be reserved up to 29 days ahead and are limited around public holidays, so reserve as soon as your dates are fixed. The 3 HSR days run consecutively from your first ride, and all three items must be used within 7 days of the first use of any item.

This product is only available for purchase by international passengers, not applicable to Taiwanese nationals. If the ticket cannot be used after redemption due to personal reasons, the order will not be canceled or partially refunded, please be informed.
High-speed rail tickets must be redeemed and used within 89 days of ticket issuance. Bookings can be made within 29 days (including the day of travel) up to 1 hour before departure.
No refunds will be accepted after any product has been redeemed.
Lost ticket cards and paper tickets cannot be reissued, so please keep them properly.

How to Use
Taiwan PASS Purchase and Usage Guidelines
- Purchase Eligibility: Please purchase an adult ticket for those aged 12 and above; please purchase a child ticket for those aged 6-11. Children under 6 who do not occupy a seat do not need a ticket; if a seat is required, please purchase a child ticket.
- APP Redemption: This package must be redeemed and used via the Taiwan PASS APP. Please click here to download the APP.
Validity Period Information (by order of operation):
- Activate Plan: You must enter the 'serial number starting with 85 from your order voucher' in the APP to activate the plan within 1 year of purchasing the package.
Example: If you purchased the HSR version plan on 2026/1/1, you must complete the plan activation in the APP before 2027/1/1 (the APP screen will show the top card + the bottom product category list). - Plan Validity Period: Once any product is used for the first time (boarding, entry, or redeeming a physical ticket card), the remaining products must be used on-site within 7 days (including the day of the first use).
Example: If the first product selected is the 'Taipei Fun Pass 2-Day Pass', after redeeming the physical card on 2026/1/3, the remaining products must be redeemed or used by 2026/1/9 at the latest. - For the actual validity period of the plan, please check the 'Travel Plan Date': Once the first product is used or electronic vouchers for some products are obtained, the system will automatically update the validity period, and it cannot be changed manually thereafter (e.g., HSR 3-Day Pass, Kaohsiung MRT + Light Rail 2-Day Pass).

HSR 3-Day Pass Special Notes:
- HSR tickets must be redeemed and used within 89 days from the date of issuance. You can book trains up to 29 days in advance (including the day of travel) and up to 1 hour before departure.
- After clicking 'Get Ticket' in the APP to receive the electronic serial number, please go to the Taiwan High Speed Rail official website to reserve your train.
※ Please complete the reservation or redemption one day before travel to use it on the day of travel. If you do not book in advance, you can only use it from the following day after exchanging the ticket on-site. The counter staff will assist in exchanging it for a physical ticket after verifying relevant documents. (e.g., If you receive the electronic serial number on 2026/1/5, you can reserve trains from 2026/1/6 onwards.) - Once a physical ticket has been exchanged at the HSR station ticket window, you will not be able to use the official website system to change the train again. If you have any questions, please ask at the station window for changes.
