Located in Houwan, the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium is the largest of its kind in Taiwan. It features a rich variety of marine life and is divided into the Waters of Taiwan Pavilion, the Coral Kingdom Pavilion, and the Waters of the World Pavilion. With its three-story aquarium tank, underwater tunnel, adorable penguins, and gracefully swimming beluga whales and sharks, it makes you feel as if you are visiting the underwater world yourself—it is truly worth a visit! It is not only perfect for families and groups, but adults will also have a great time here.

  • Wander the Polar Regions at 66.5 Degrees
Check out the interactive exhibition experience. Through spatial landscaping combined with light projection, immersive theaters, and touch-interactive effects, the Pingtung National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium has created an immersive sensory experience, completely reshaping the three polar water regions: the Aurora Tunnel, the Arctic Area, and the Antarctic Area. It feels as if you have stepped into a snowy polar world in a second. As the world's first 'waterless aquarium' built using virtual reality technology, it offers a marvelous visiting experience that combines the virtual and the physical.
  • The First Blue Whale Skeleton Specimen Exhibition in Taiwan: 'The Path of the Giant Whale'
The first blue whale ever recorded in Taiwan will, after 1,420 days, roam above the lobby of the Waters of the World Pavilion at the museum in a new form. Measuring 20 meters long, with 63 vertebrae and weighing 1 metric ton, the museum has reconstructed its skeleton and created a popular science exhibition, allowing this blue whale to be freed from the ropes that bound it and transformed into a permanent collection of the museum, extending the value and meaning of its life. The museum also invites the public to take this rare opportunity to visit and feel the life story told through each of its bones, while also reflecting on how to maintain the sustainable development of the ocean and move together toward a beautiful vision of a sustainable ocean.

This summer, the NMMBA has created a brand new 'Blue Whale Tunnel,' featuring a 12-meter-long giant comic wall in collaboration with the 'Sea Witch Agency' as a major highlight.

In Pingtung National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium's marine life exhibition area, a female visitor with her back to the camera intently views wall displays on cetacean knowledge and ocean stories, immersed in science education.

At the end of 2023, the first blue whale skeleton specimen in Taiwan was slowly raised in the Waters of the World Pavilion at the NMMBA. Suspended above the hall, this 20-meter-long blue whale skeleton is not only the result of three and a half years of hard work by the specimen restoration team but also allows all visitors to face the most precious life lesson it brings.
