- Arashiyama Hozugawa River Boat Ride
The Hozugawa River originates in the Tanba Highlands of central Kyoto Prefecture, winding through the mountains of Kyoto to Kameoka, before traversing a 16km mountain gorge and eventually merging with the Kamo River to flow into the Yodo River. Local professional boatmen use long bamboo poles, rudders, and oars to navigate the boat, showcasing their expert skills as they glide through the rocks. Typically, three boatmen operate each vessel, though depending on the wind and water levels, four to five may be required.
The beautiful nature of the Hozugawa Gorge offers unique charm in every season. With its towering boulders, surrounding mountains, splashing rapids, and mysterious, mirror-like deep pools, the ever-changing scenery is poetic and unforgettable. During peak tourist season, there may be situations where the boat is fully booked and you cannot board on time for your scheduled time slot. In such cases, the boat operator will arrange another boat for you. Please understand that there may be a waiting period on site.

There will be tents on the boat during rainy weather, and the boat will still depart as usual. Smoking is prohibited on board, but eating and drinking are allowed.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by unforeseen events such as natural disasters, which may result in changes to the itinerary, operating hours, or cessation of sailings. Full refunds will be issued for sailings cancelled due to force majeure.
