Yes, it is very common and feasible to visit Yehliu Geopark, Shifen Waterfall, Shifen Old Street, and Jiufen in a single day, especially with a well-planned bus tour. This type of tour efficiently covers these popular northern Taiwan attractions, providing comfortable transportation and often a guide to maximize your sightseeing experience within a day.
To reach Raohe Night Market from Taipei Main Station, the most direct way is to take the MRT Songshan-Xindian Line (Green Line) from "Taipei Main Station" to "Songshan Station." The night market is conveniently located right next to Songshan Station, specifically near Exit 5, making it easily accessible via a short walk.
From central Taipei, the most common way to reach Shifen is by taking a train from Taipei Main Station to Ruifang Station, then transferring to the Pingxi Line to Shifen Station. Alternatively, joining a guided bus tour is highly recommended for convenience, as it includes direct transportation and often covers multiple attractions like Yehliu and Jiufen without the hassle of transfers.
Raohe Night Market typically opens in the late afternoon, around 5:00 PM, and generally operates until midnight. The best visiting times are usually from around 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, when most stalls are fully open and the atmosphere is vibrant. Weekday evenings tend to be slightly less crowded compared to weekends.
At Raohe Night Market, visitors can savor a wide array of Taiwanese street food, including the famous Fuzhou Pepper Buns, oyster omelets, stinky tofu, and various grilled delicacies. Beyond food, you can enjoy carnival-style games, shop for unique local souvenirs, clothing, and accessories, experiencing the bustling local market culture.
Yehliu Geopark is famous for its unique geological formations, sculpted by sea erosion and weathering. Key highlights include the iconic "Queen's Head" rock, the "Fairy Shoe," and the "Candle Holders." Visitors can explore various mushroom rocks, ginger rocks, and sea-eroded trenches, showcasing nature's artistry along the coast.
Shifen is renowned for its unique tradition of releasing sky lanterns directly on the train tracks. Visitors can purchase lanterns, write wishes on them, and release them into the sky for good fortune, which makes for a memorable photo opportunity. The nearby Shifen Waterfall, known as "Taiwan's Niagara Falls," also offers picturesque natural views.
Raohe Night Market is known for its lively and bustling atmosphere, especially in the evenings. It can get quite crowded, particularly during peak hours on weekends and public holidays, often making it slow to navigate through the alleys. For a slightly more relaxed experience, consider visiting earlier in the evening on a weekday.
