Hyakusai-ji Temple is historically renowned as one of Japan's oldest temples, believed to have been founded by Prince Shotoku in the 7th century. Its establishment reflects a deep connection to early Japanese Buddhism and the ancient Baekje Kingdom, from which it derives its name. The temple has served as a significant spiritual and cultural center in the Omi region for centuries.
The optimal time for viewing autumn foliage at Hyakusai-ji Temple and the surrounding Omi region is typically in November. This specific tour is scheduled from November 13, 14, and November 18-30, indicating these dates are carefully selected to coincide with the peak vibrancy of the autumn leaves, ensuring visitors experience the most spectacular colors.
The correct Japanese pronunciation of 'Hyakusai-ji Temple' is approximately 'Hyah-koo-sigh-jee'. The name combines 'Hyaku' (百), meaning 'hundred,' 'Sai' (済), meaning 'cross over' or 'accomplish,' and 'Ji' (寺), meaning 'temple,' reflecting its ancient origins and historical significance.
While specific 'secret' Buddha statues may have limited viewing periods, Hyakusai-ji Temple is generally celebrated for its collection of important Buddhist images housed within its main hall and other structures. Visitors can also explore its exquisitely manicured gardens, experience its tranquil atmosphere, and admire the traditional temple architecture, particularly beautiful amidst the autumn scenery.
In addition to Hyakusai-ji Temple, this tour includes visits to two other prominent autumn foliage spots in Omi, Shiga: Tokugen-in Temple and Eigen-ji Temple. These three locations collectively offer a comprehensive experience of the region's stunning autumn colors, each presenting unique scenic beauty and historical charm.
This day tour specifically visits three renowned autumn foliage temples in Omi, Shiga. These are Hyakusai-ji Temple, Tokugen-in Temple, and Eigen-ji Temple. Each temple is carefully chosen for its exceptional autumn scenery, providing diverse and breathtaking views of vibrant red and gold leaves.
Participants on this tour will indulge in a luxurious lunch featuring a selection of three high-grade ingredients: Matsutake mushrooms, premium Omi beef, and exquisite eel. This specially prepared meal offers a distinctive culinary experience, highlighting the rich flavors and local delicacies of the region.
Yes, as a special feature of this tour, participants have the option to receive a high-quality local delicacy to take home. You can choose between approximately 200g of famous Omi beef or a boxed set containing three Matsutake mushrooms, weighing around 60g in total, as a memorable souvenir.
