Product Info

Experience Kurokawa Onsen’s “Yuaakari,” where soft lights illuminate the hot spring town at night.

A beloved winter tradition of Kurokawa Onsen! Since its start in the winter of 2012, the ‘Yuaakari’ light-up features around 300 spherical ‘mari lanterns’ and 2-meter-tall cylindrical ‘tsutsu lanterns,’ all arranged to blend naturally into the surrounding landscape. These warm, gentle lights create a magical nighttime atmosphere throughout the town. Enjoy the enchanting and dreamlike ambiance.

Explore ”Kurokawa Onsen Nyuto Tegata” (Onsen Hopping Pass) that lets you enjoy hot springs, local gourmet treats, and souvenirs.

At an elevation of 700 meters along the Tanoharu River, a tributary of the Chikugo River, Kurokawa Onsen is lined with nostalgic, traditional inns. Based on the concept of “the entire hot spring town functioning as one single ryokan,” the area preserves the classic atmosphere of a healing retreat.

This tour includes an Onsen Hopping Pass (Nyūtō Tegata) for all participants.

From among the 25 hot springs at Kurokawa Onsen’s ryokan, you may choose three baths to enjoy. One of the three selections may also be used for dining or souvenir shopping. After use, the wooden pass can be kept as a travel memento or dedicated to the Jizō Hall in the hot spring town.

【Kurokawa Onsen: Notes & Information】

Please note that restaurants, souvenir shops, and ryokan may close irregularly.
Bathing may not be available at certain facilities due to cleaning or temporary closure.
Bringing food or drinks into the hot springs is not allowed.
Some open-air baths prohibit photography. Please follow the rules and enjoy responsibly.
Please refrain from any behavior that may disturb other guests.

Visit the mystical, otherworldly Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine.

The Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine, which has also gained attention as the setting for a popular manga and movie, attracts visitors from all over Japan seeking its mysterious, otherworldly atmosphere.
Behind the shrine stands Ugetoiwa, a massive wind cave over 10 meters high and wide. Legend says it was kicked open by Kihachi Hōshi, the loyal retainer of Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto.
Because this giant hole pierces straight through the Rocky Mountains, it has come to symbolize overcoming even the toughest challenges. As a result, it is widely believed to bring blessings for success in exams and victory in competitions.

Savor Takamori’s traditional local cuisine, Dengaku.

“Dengaku” is said to have originated about 250 years ago, when villagers from this area traveled around the country and tasted tofu dengaku in Kyoto and Izumo. They brought the idea back home and adapted it using the region’s specialty—taro.
This simple local dish features regional taro, yamame trout, and mountain vegetables, all seasoned with a unique sansho miso and yuzu miso. The ingredients are grilled over charcoal on a traditional irori hearth, creating a warm, nostalgic countryside flavor.
