We didn't buy the package tour with transportation; we only bought entrance tickets (including round-trip cable car ride) and went to Biwako Valley with our son. We took the JR train from Osaka to Shiga Station and then transferred to a bus to the mountain, which was very convenient. We bought waterproof ski boots at Workman the day before, so we only rented ski pants at the ski resort. Actually, it's cheaper to book ski equipment or clothing in advance on the Biwako Valley ski resort's official website. Our goal this time was to play in the snow and sled. We brought our own hats, waterproof gloves, waterproof jackets, and ski boots. Sleds can be rented on-site at the snow park, and there are also snowball toys available at the resort, which we had a lot of fun with! Be careful of snow getting into your boots; it's best to bring dry shoes and socks as spares. For the return trip, you can decide your own departure time, not be limited by the package tour. We took the bus down the mountain, then the JR train to Katada and then transferred to a super express train back to Osaka, which was really convenient. We originally planned to go to Kyoto, but the ski resort was so much fun that the kids didn't want to leave. We had curry rice and hot coffee at the ski resort at noon, enjoying the snow scenery—it was very pleasant!
My experience at Biwako Valley Ski Resort was fantastic, and it's definitely one of the most highly recommended ski resorts in the Kansai region. It's conveniently located from Osaka, easily accessible by car or public transport, and the gondola ride takes you directly to the summit, offering breathtaking views of Lake Biwa. The slopes are well-planned, catering to beginners, intermediate, and advanced skiers. The beginner slopes are gentle, with staff on hand to assist, making practice safe and enjoyable. The longer runs offer exhilarating speed and are incredibly satisfying. The snow was pristine that day, remaining neither too wet nor too messy even in the afternoon. Equipment rental was quick and easy, the gear was new and clean, and the staff were friendly. The rest areas and dining options were plentiful, allowing you to warm up while enjoying the lake views – a comfortable environment overall. Whether it's your first time skiing or a relaxing day trip, Biwako Valley is a great choice for both beautiful scenery and a great experience. I'll definitely be back!
I only made the purchase on the day of the sale because of the uncertain weather. I couldn't receive SMS messages when using full payment, making the payment process very inconvenient. Luckily, LinePay worked successfully. However, I couldn't cancel the purchase made in advance.
The weather was great when I arrived in the morning, but it started snowing heavily when I was about to leave. I saw two different sides of Lake Biwa in one day! Apart from the hassle and long wait for renting equipment, everything else was really great!
