A friend told me about it and I bought a ticket immediately. It was my first time seeing the autumn leaves lit up, my first time at Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine, and my first time experiencing a gagaku performance up close, so it was a first for me. It was standing room only, but the performance was only 20 minutes long, so I enjoyed it thoroughly. I think the ticket price was just right. It was in the mountains, so it got quite cold at night.
We boarded at Kyoto Station and met at the designated meeting point on time. The tour guide, holding a GOGODAY sign, helped us find our way. The bus driver was professional and courteous; we were lucky to have Wu Yiyu as our guide – friendly, articulate, and a professional tour leader. On the bus, she provided brief introductions to the attractions in both English and Chinese, reminding us of meeting times. She managed the time well for each attraction, allowing us to visit four sites in one day – a truly fulfilling day! ☆ Sanzen-in Temple is the most beautiful spot; there's ample time for photos or lunch. ☆ Shirahisa Shrine is difficult to access, so a tour is the best option. ☆ Mangetsu-ji Temple offers close-up views of Lake Biwa and is a popular spot for locals. ☆ La Collina Omihachiman is very crowded on weekends; if possible, avoid weekends. One hour is enough for photos and to enjoy a Baumkuchen.
The atmosphere on the boat is relaxed, and you can enjoy the lake view. The snacks on board are also delicious.
