Nakijin Village

Nakijin Castle Ruins is one of the most important castle ruins from the Ryukyu Kingdom era and was designated a World Cultural Heritage site in 2000. Built in the 14th century on a limestone hill at an altitude of about 100 meters, this castle was constructed using traditional Ryukyuan stone-building techniques, with walls reaching up to 8 meters high, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. It is recommended to visit during the cherry blossom season, from late January to early February, to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the castle ruins and cherry blossoms complementing each other.

Northern Okinawa is ideal for experiencing natural scenery and leisure activities. Recommended attractions include the world-class Churaumi Aquarium, Kouri Island, known as the 'Island of Love', the mountains of Yanbaru National Park with its cliffs and mangrove forests, tasting local delicacies, and enjoying various outdoor activities like diving and scenic drives. Churaumi Aquarium is famous for its giant whale sharks and manta rays, while Kouri Island attracts visitors with its clear 'Kouri Blue' waters and elephant trunk-shaped rock formations.

Kouri Island has several must-visit attractions, including Kouri Ocean Tower, where you can take an unmanned vehicle up the mountain to enjoy panoramic ocean views and ring the bell of happiness; Kouri Bridge and the Southern Observation Deck, offering the best vantage point to admire the magnificent Kouri Bridge; and Kouri Beach and the unique heart-shaped rocks, all excellent places to experience island life.

The most convenient way to get to Kouri Island is by renting a car and driving yourself. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from Nakijin Village, with beautiful Okinawa scenery along the way. While you can also choose to take a tour bus or public transportation, it is less convenient and may require transfers.
