COEDA HOUSE is an all-glass cafe designed by world-renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. With the vision of 'creating a building that looks like a large tree by assembling small branches,' Kuma incorporated glass into the exterior and used mirrored furniture to create a design that blends seamlessly into the rose garden. This concept allows the architecture to meet the rose garden, creating a space that resonates with nature.
The name 'COEDA HOUSE' comes from the 'CO' meaning 'to call' and the idea of a large tree formed by gathering small branches (EDA). 'COEDA' also carries the meaning of 'people gathering together.' The building utilizes the 'expanded resin anchor method,' which provides structural strength by securing timber with steel reinforcement through resin. A key feature is that these structural elements remain invisible.
Furthermore, to support the structure of COEDA HOUSE, 49 layers of 800-year-old Alaskan cypress were stacked, using 1,500 pieces of wood for the pillars. By stacking small pieces of wood ranging from 80cm to 12m in length, the building takes on the appearance of a single, massive tree. The flooring is made of African teak, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the warmth and scent of solid wood.
