It was our first time visiting Fukuoka, and we wanted to explore some outlying areas (like Yufuin), so we booked a day trip. We booked a day trip in early June, and the itinerary was indeed very tight. However, we happened to arrive when Dazaifu was under renovation, and the shops on the street started opening at 9:30 am, so we had a little extra time to stroll around (about 39-35 minutes, no more, no less). Next, we took a sightseeing bus to Beppu to catch the cable car, but unfortunately, we missed the 12:20 cable car by one minute. We waited another 20 minutes for the next bus, then waited about 30 minutes before having to take the 13:20 cable car down. Whether the Beppu cable car is worth it depends on the weather and time; if the weather is clear and you're not in a rush, you can consider it. However, if your timing is perfect, I'd suggest saving your time for the later Yufuin trip. The driver departs at 13:30 and you must arrive in Yufuin by 14:10 to park the car (we also need to catch the 16:40 bus back to Hakata Station and finish the trip around 18:00). Luckily, we changed our return tickets to the "Yufuson" train back to Hakata Station, catching the 17:17 train, so we had just the right amount of time to walk from Lake Kinrin to Yufuin Station – a complete walk of the entire street! (Unfortunately... some shops start closing at 4:30 PM), but... because we had a full 3 hours to leisurely explore, our guide was Ms. Summer Wang, whom I thought was incredibly talented 👍. After speaking in Chinese, she had to translate the English for the English-speaking tourists, while also communicating with the driver in Japanese. She also speaks Shanghainese, and her time management was excellent. I really admire her!
The Sea Hell and the Fire Hell were amazing! Even though it was raining at Kyushu Zoo, the view from the bus was incredibly clear. The driver was also very considerate, ensuring we had great angles to observe the animals. 😍 Highly recommend Yufuin Kichigo Fried Chicken, Marichi Dorayaki, Kinsho Croquettes, and Yufu Coffee's Matcha Dumplings! 😍 Our guide, Li Xiangrong, was absolutely fantastic today! 👍 She even took great care of taking photos for us 📷 and recommended tons of nearby restaurants 🫶🏻
I originally planned to book a private car for my trip to Kumamoto, but after contacting several companies, I discovered that many car rental companies in Fukuoka were reluctant to accept bookings departing from Kumamoto hotels. Some companies were willing, but charged extra because the driver had to arrive in Kumamoto a day in advance to be able to pick us up on time the following day. Therefore, in addition to the car rental fee, we also had to pay for the driver's accommodation and half a day's empty car dispatch fee, making the overall price significantly higher. Later, I found this company. Although they could only arrange Japanese drivers, the experience from initial consultation to departure was excellent. Their customer service could communicate in Chinese, not only helping us plan our itinerary but also patiently answering all our questions, which made us feel much more at ease as it was our first time traveling independently in Kumamoto. They also provided driver information, vehicle details, and precautions before departure, and any questions were answered quickly. Although the driver didn't speak Chinese on the day of the trip, thanks to translation software and the prior assistance from customer service, the entire trip went very smoothly. For travelers departing from Kumamoto who want Chinese-speaking customer service to assist with communication, I highly recommend this company.
If you do not have a JR Pass to go to Moji Port by the fastest one day round trip is cheaper than buying ordinary car tickets show mobile pass to the staff is very convenient to note that you must sit in a free seat
