I redeemed the JR Tokyo Wide Pass directly at Narita Airport this time. The process was smooth and the instructions were clear, which was a big plus as I didn't have to go to a counter in the city. For someone who had just landed and still had luggage, less travel meant less expense, so the overall first impression was that it was "friendly to beginners." 🧳🗺️ In actual use, the biggest advantage is the wide range of routes covered. Places near Tokyo like Karuizawa, Kawaguchiko, and Nikko can all be covered in one trip. 🚄 As long as the itinerary is planned in advance, taking JR trains for long distances over several consecutive days quickly recoups the cost, making it very cost-effective. Seating arrangements and transfers were also smooth, requiring minimal planning. 📍 Overall, this pass is suitable for "itinerary-oriented" travelers. Those who plan their routes in advance and focus on key destinations will benefit the most. It's not for impromptu, random travel, but as long as the direction is clear, transportation costs can be kept very low. 💡
I boarded the pre-booked bus heading towards Lake Kawaguchi, which was very convenient. I could even rest a bit on the bus, and after getting off, I felt completely refreshed – very chill!
For both the outbound and return journeys, you can pick up two tickets directly from the JR ticket machine. One ticket is automatically converted to a seat towards downtown Tokyo, while the other is an unconverted ticket that you can convert to a seat at the machine for the return trip. When transferring to another JR station in Tokyo on the outbound journey, if the ticket reader fails to scan at the exit, you can simply show the ticket to the station staff to exit without paying any additional fees, which is very convenient.
The itinerary included a visit to a shrine and a seafood market for lunch, which was very well arranged. The freshly shucked oysters were delicious. The evening light show was unique and vibrant, definitely worth seeing, and there were plenty of ticket booths. Our guide, Ko, was very attentive and caring, looking after every guest. The tour bus was also very comfortable.
Buying tickets on KKDAY is very convenient; you can use them immediately after purchase. They cover games from the 90s to the present day, so anime and gamer fans shouldn't miss it. All descriptions are in Japanese, and there are a few collectible items available for purchase.
For those who love buying souvenirs, at least 30,000 yen is a safe bet; we unfortunately didn't buy enough and are a bit disappointed. The 15% discount plus tax refund was fantastic!
