Experience Japan’s most famous stargazing destination, renowned for having some of the country's clearest and most beautiful night skies.
Achi Village, Nagano Prefecture, once ranked as the No. 1 place in Japan for stargazing by a survey conducted by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, is renowned for its exceptionally clear night skies. Surrounded by mountains that block artificial light, the village offers ideal conditions for observing the stars in crisp, unpolluted air.
During the Starry Sky Night Tour, you will ride a gondola to an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters. As the moon approaches its new phase, countless stars fill the night sky, creating a breathtaking celestial display. Around the full moon, guests can enjoy the bright glow of the moon alongside prominent first-magnitude stars and planets.
For the stargazing session, all lights in the viewing area are turned off, revealing a sky filled with seemingly endless stars stretching overhead. Experience a magical and unforgettable night sky far removed from the bright lights of the city.
Full Moon Dates: July 29, August 28, September 27, and October 26
Notes
In 2006, Achi Village was selected as the top location for star observation in the nationwide Star Watching Network survey conducted by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment.
The area also received the Minister of the Environment Award (Group Category) at the 29th Star Watching Convention held in Minamimaki Village, Nagano, in 2017.
Stargazing is subject to weather conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
There are no assigned seats for stargazing. Guests may enjoy the experience from any location within the viewing area.
Bringing a picnic blanket (leisure sheet) and a flashlight is recommended.
Chairs are not provided during the stargazing session.
Temperatures can be cool at night, so please bring warm clothing or a light jacket.
