For an annual family trip with seniors and teenagers, long-distance travel and complicated public transportation schedules can be cumbersome, so hiring a car is a better option. Thanks to the business for creating a pre-arranged contact group, which provided peace of mind, and thanks to the driver for his assistance in making the trip from Shinjuku to Okunikko a smooth success.
The whole day's itinerary was very fulfilling and enriching. Our tour guide, Helen, was very experienced, gentle, and attentive to every member of the group. Her service was excellent, and I was extremely satisfied. 100/100!
Due to the itinerary, we went straight to Karuizawa on the first day and didn't realize that the Tokyo Wide Pass I bought on KKDay could only be redeemed for physical tickets at Narita, Tokyo, and Shinjuku stations. I am grateful to KKDay customer service for their assistance in canceling the ticket (after deducting a 10% handling fee).
I went to the Tomioka Silk Mill with the feeling that "I think I learned about it in school, and it's a World Heritage Site, so I should go," but it was truly wonderful. The buildings are beautiful, and the rows of spinning machines are incredibly impressive, but the guided tour, which costs 200 yen for adults, was excellent. In the 45-minute tour, the guide explained in a very clear and thorough manner why the Tomioka Silk Mill was built in Gunma, the lives of the female workers, and the reasons behind the building's structure. After the guide gives you a tour of the grounds, it's a good idea to go and see the places you want to know more about. There are also many other things to see, such as live silkworms and demonstrations of silk spinning. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind insects.
