Product Info

- About Tomioka Silk Mill -

Tomioka Silk Mill is a government-run model silk reeling factory established by the Meiji government to modernize Japan.
In 2014, it was registered as a World Heritage site under the name 'Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites'.
The three buildings designated as National Treasures—the Silk Reeling Plant, the East Cocoon Warehouse, and the West Cocoon Warehouse—are particularly captivating.
The West Cocoon Warehouse, in particular, features a glass room utilizing steel frames for seismic reinforcement, allowing you to experience the National Treasure building through the glass.
Among the exhibits, there are displays that offer a glimpse into the lives of the 'factory girls' of that time, allowing you to enjoy touring the entire silk mill while imagining their daily lives back then.
Inside the buildings, there are exhibition rooms and a multi-purpose hall, where lectures and concerts are sometimes held.
* During event periods, access to the multi-purpose hall may be restricted depending on the content.
