For comfort and proper fit, it's recommended to wear light, thin undergarments such as a camisole or tank top and shorts or leggings. The rental service typically provides specific undergarments like juban (inner kimono) and other padding to create the correct silhouette. Avoiding bulky clothing underneath ensures the kimono or yukata drapes beautifully and feels comfortable throughout your rental period.
When wearing a kimono or yukata, it's customary to take smaller steps and maintain a graceful posture. Be mindful of not dragging the hem, especially on stairs or uneven ground, to prevent damage and maintain elegance. When sitting, try to keep your knees together to preserve the garment's shape. Showing respect for the traditional attire enhances your cultural immersion in Okinawa.
Kimonos and yukatas are designed for movement, but they do encourage smaller strides. Yukatas are generally lighter and more breathable, making them ideal for Okinawa's warmer climate and exploring various attractions. The professional stylist will ensure your garment is tied securely but not overly tightly, allowing for comfortable walking and sightseeing around Okinawa's beautiful sites.
