Asahiyama Zoo is renowned for its "action exhibition" style, allowing visitors to observe animals in their natural behaviors. Key highlights include the popular penguin parade in winter, the underwater tunnel for seal viewing, and the spacious polar bear habitat where you can watch them swim and play. The zoo focuses on creating immersive and engaging environments for both animals and visitors.
During winter, Asahiyama Zoo's famous "Penguin Walk" is a major attraction, where penguins stroll along a designated path, offering a delightful close-up view. While specific daily event schedules may vary, the "action exhibition" itself provides continuous unique insights into animal behaviors, which is a highlight for visitors. It's advisable to check the official zoo schedule upon arrival for any seasonal specific events.
At Asahiyama Zoo, penguin exhibits offer diverse viewing experiences. You can watch penguins swim gracefully from an underwater glass tunnel, creating an illusion of being immersed in their aquatic world. During winter, the highly anticipated Penguin Walk allows you to see them waddle outdoors in a parade-like fashion, offering an intimate interaction unique to the snowy environment.
Beyond the popular penguins and polar bears, Asahiyama Zoo is home to various other fascinating animals showcased through its "action exhibition" concept. You can observe agile red pandas navigating their elevated walkways, watch big cats, and see Hokkaido wildlife such as Japanese cranes. The zoo also features a variety of primates and other local fauna, all presented to highlight their natural behaviors.
A 120-minute winter visit to Asahiyama Zoo allows you to fully immerse in its famous "action exhibition" style. You can witness the iconic Penguin Walk, observe polar bears in their expansive snowy habitat, and see seals gracefully swim through the cylindrical tank. This focused duration encourages efficient exploration of the key exhibits, ensuring a memorable experience observing natural animal behaviors in a winter setting.
The Blue Pond's winter illumination transforms the natural landscape into a mystical, otherworldly scene. The pond's naturally vibrant blue color is dramatically enhanced by fantastic light-ups, creating a breathtaking contrast against the surrounding snow and ice. This ephemeral display, often shrouded in a serene atmosphere, offers a truly unique photographic opportunity and a profound sense of wonder found only in Hokkaido's winter.
The day tour provides comprehensive ground transportation, departing from and returning to Sapporo. You will travel comfortably by coach to Asahiyama Zoo, then proceed to the Blue Pond for its unique winter illumination experience. A dedicated Japanese tour leader accompanies the group throughout the journey, ensuring a smooth, coordinated, and hassle-free travel experience between all locations.
The tour is carefully designed to offer a balanced and enriching experience at both attractions. You will enjoy a generous 120-minute stay at Asahiyama Zoo, providing ample time to explore its key exhibits and witness the "action exhibition" of animals like penguins and polar bears. Afterward, you will visit the Blue Pond to experience its fantastic winter light-up, with sufficient time allocated to appreciate its mystical beauty.
