COEDA HOUSE is a glass-walled café designed by Kengo Kuma, one of Japan's leading architects. Kuma's idea was to "create architecture that resembles a large tree by combining small branches," and he adopted a design that blends seamlessly with the rose garden, using glass for the exterior and mirrored furniture. This concept has resulted in a space where the rose garden and the architecture meet and resonate with nature.
The name COEDA HOUSE comes from "CO," meaning "to call," and represents a large tree made up of many small branches (EDA). "COEDA" also embodies the meaning of "a place where people gather." This building utilizes the "expanded resin anchor method," which provides structural strength by fixing steel reinforcement to wood using resin. Its defining feature is that it's invisible.
Furthermore, to support the structure of COEDA HOUSE, 49 layers of 800-year-old Alaskan cypress are stacked, and 1500 pieces of timber are used for the pillars. By stacking small pieces of wood ranging from 80cm to 12m in length, the structure is designed to resemble a single large tree. African zelkova wood is used for the flooring, allowing you to enjoy the warmth and fragrance of solid wood.
