Togetsukyo Bridge, named for the phenomenon of the moon "passing through" the water, is steeped in the legend of Emperor Kameyama during the Kamakura period. It was during a moonlit boat trip that the emperor was captivated by the sight of the moon seemingly bridging the gaps in the water's surface. The first incarnation of this bridge was conceived in 836, and the current structure was completed in 1934. While retaining the appearance of a traditional wooden bridge, a closer look reveals its sturdy reinforced concrete frame, with railings crafted only from fragrant cypress wood. At the bridge's dock, a series of quaint souvenir shops await. Rickshaws constantly ply the water, adding to the atmosphere and transporting visitors to bygone Japan, where the echoes of history and ancient charm remain. Cross the bridge, experience a cinematic feeling, and feel the tranquil breeze of the river.
