The annual Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival is one of the biggest events in Kitakyushu in summer. Every year on the evening of August 13, fireworks are set off simultaneously from Moji Port in Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi Prefecture, both sides of the Kanmon Straits connecting Honshu and Kyushu. The fireworks are reflected on the sea, creating a surreal scenery that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists.
