It offers unlimited rides on designated JR trains, including the Sanyo Shinkansen (for unreserved seats), JR conventional lines, JR buses, and the JR West Miyajima Ferry. This can lead to significant savings compared to purchasing individual tickets for each journey, making it a valuable choice for maximizing your travel budget.

2. How can I travel between Hiroshima and Yamaguchi using the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass?

With the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass, you can travel efficiently between Hiroshima and Yamaguchi primarily via the Sanyo Shinkansen, which connects major stations like Hiroshima Station and Shin-Yamaguchi Station. The pass also covers unlimited rides on JR conventional lines and select JR buses within the designated area. For example, you can take a Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Shin-Yamaguchi, then use local JR lines or buses to reach specific destinations within Yamaguchi Prefecture, such as Hagi or Iwakuni.

3. What are the key differences between the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass and other regional passes?

The JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass is specifically tailored for in-depth travel within Hiroshima and Yamaguchi prefectures over five consecutive days. Unlike broader regional passes that cover wider areas like Kansai or Kyushu, this pass offers focused access to the JR rail network (including Shinkansen unreserved seats), buses, and the JR West Miyajima ferry within its designated zone. This makes it ideal if your itinerary concentrates on these two prefectures, ensuring comprehensive coverage without paying for unused routes outside your travel scope.

4. What transportation and services are included with the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass?

The JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass provides unlimited use of JR conventional lines, the Sanyo Shinkansen (for unreserved seats, between Shin-Osaka and Hakata, within the designated area), select JR buses, and the JR West Miyajima Ferry. Additionally, for passes booked post-October 2023, you can enjoy unlimited reserved seats on conventional lines without extra fees. This comprehensive coverage simplifies transportation logistics, allowing seamless travel to key attractions throughout Hiroshima and Yamaguchi.

5. Which major landmarks in Hiroshima and Yamaguchi can be visited using the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass?

The JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass allows convenient access to many prominent landmarks. In Hiroshima, you can easily reach attractions like the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Miyajima (via the JR West Miyajima Ferry to visit Itsukushima Shrine), and Shukkei-en Garden. In Yamaguchi, the pass facilitates visits to Iwakuni's Kintai Bridge, Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, and areas around Shin-Yamaguchi Station, serving as a gateway to other prefectural highlights. Utilizing the JR network simplifies reaching these iconic sites.

6. How do I exchange my e-voucher for the physical JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass?

After purchasing the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass e-ticket, you will receive an e-voucher. To obtain your physical pass, you must present this e-voucher along with your passport at designated JR ticket machines equipped with a passport reader, or at a Midori-no-Madoguchi (JR Ticket Office) in major JR stations within the designated area, such as Hiroshima Station or Shin-Yamaguchi Station. Look for green ticket machines which typically support this exchange process.

7. Does the JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass allow reserved seats on Shinkansen or conventional lines?

The JR Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass allows unlimited use of unreserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen within the designated area. For conventional JR lines, passes booked after October 2023 also include unlimited reserved seats without any additional charges.
