- Facility Introduction -

Yokohama Zoological Gardens Zoorasia is one of the largest zoos in Japan, dedicated to the care, exhibition, and breeding of wildlife from around the world. We are also actively involved in research and efforts to reintroduce endangered species into the wild.

• Asian Tropical Forest
  The tropical rainforest is a treasure trove of biodiversity. We have recreated the towering trees that reach through the lush, dense greenery. From Asian elephants to Borneo orangutans and Sumatran tigers, many rare species native to Asia await your visit.
  
  
• Subarctic Forest
  In this area of continuous coniferous forests, you will find exhibits modeled after mountainous regions and the Arctic in summer. Highlights include watching the lively movements of animals, such as golden takins navigating steep rocky terrain and polar bears swimming as seen through the glass.
  
  
• Oceanian Grassland
  Characterized by a unique landscape shaped by alternating dry and rainy seasons, this region is symbolized by large rocky outcrops and tall, resilient eucalyptus trees. Why not enjoy a relaxing meal at the 'Aussie Hill' restaurant while watching the laid-back red kangaroos?
  
  
• Central Asian Highland
  Central Asia, largely comprised of Russia, China, and Mongolia, is home to some of the world's rarest animals. Here, you can meet species such as the dhole and the proboscis monkey, which are not kept in any other zoo in Japan.
  
  
• Japanese Countryside
  'Satoyama' refers to mountain forests shaped by human interaction. Japan boasts some of the world's highest levels of biodiversity, and this area plays a key role in that. It is home to animals long familiar to the Japanese people, such as the Japanese raccoon dog and Japanese macaque, as well as the Tsushima leopard cat, a species endemic to Japan.
  
  
• Amazon Jungle
  The Amazon River crossing the continent and the vast forests of its basin create a landscape of creeping roots and swamps. Animals that have evolved to suit this environment live here, such as the bush dog that runs through the jungle and the spectacled bear, the only bear species in South America. The 'Waku Waku Square,' featuring an okapi slide, is also very popular with children.
  
  
• African Tropical Rainforest
  This zone recreates the Congo River basin in central Africa, where animals like the okapi, which have adapted to this habitat, reside. You can get a feel for following in the footsteps of researchers, with sights like the remains of an expedition camp and the 'Chimpanzee Forest,' which mimics a chimpanzee nature reserve.
  
  
• African Savanna
  This area recreates the iconic savanna landscape, including vast grasslands, as well as open woodlands, wetlands, rocky areas, and peripheral environments. Through mixed-species exhibits of carnivores and herbivores, you can observe the social dynamics of the animals. You can also get up close to the animals during our bird shows.
  
  
• Wanpaku Forest
  At the 'Paka Paka Square,' feeding ponies and pony riding experiences are popular with small children. We also recommend the 'Nature Experience Forest,' where you can enjoy seasonal flowers and wild birds. At 'Koro Koro Square,' you can enjoy a picnic-style lunch.
