First, you don't need to choose the 6-hour tour; 4 hours is enough (in my opinion). My guide was Tiger, who provided very detailed explanations. His English was accent-free, and he clearly understood Ha Long Bay. He was fantastic. The food on board was delicious! The seafood was also very fresh! (Some reviews said it wasn't fresh, which worried me before the trip, but the actual meals were perfect). The facilities and toilets on board were very clean, and the staff cleaned them regularly, so it was great. The staff were also very friendly. Afternoon tea was provided, consisting of a cup of warm tea and two small cakes. For other drinks on board, the menu does not include tax, so remember to bring enough cash; credit card payments incur a 20% transaction fee. The tour has three stops: the first is an island with white sand beaches (you can also climb the island for panoramic views of Ha Long Bay), the second is the boat trip, and the third is to see the Surprise Cave. The first stop is the most beautiful; you can climb up to see the entire Ha Long Bay or play in the water, but the toilets are very smelly and dirty. There is a cafe and a snack shop there. The second stop offered three options: rowing, bamboo rafting, and speedboating, priced at 50,000, 50,000, and 100,000 respectively. The tour guide explained the differences between each option in detail. I chose the bamboo rafting, which was also a lot of fun; the boatman would deliberately rock the boat violently to create a thrill. The third stop was the Surprise Cave, which is usually visited on the 6-hour tour. However, we were too tired that day, and some of my group members and I didn't disembark to visit this attraction. That's why I said that people who are prone to fatigue or have health concerns, especially the elderly and children, shouldn't choose this attraction.
Our tour guide Henry is very professional and shares a lot about Vietnam's history along the way, giving you a deeper understanding of the country. The trip can be a bit tiring, with a lot of mountain climbing, but you also have the option to skip it. I highly recommend it. It's definitely worth it. Ha Long Bay is beautiful!
The morning pickup was a little late due to traffic, but other than that, it was a fantastic tour that exceeded all expectations. Our guide, Lucas, was very kind and always smiling. He gave thorough explanations and provided excellent support even with our broken English. The shuttle bus was standard but comfortable enough, and the lunch was delicious. The bamboo boat tour of Luong Cave and Sung Sot Cave included detailed explanations of the highlights, making it a very enjoyable activity. The party on the way back wasn't too noisy, which was just right for our family. Since it was an English-language tour, there were few Japanese people, which is one of the great things about traveling abroad. Choosing Sonata Cruises was absolutely the right decision. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed a delicious lunch while admiring the spectacular views of Ha Long Bay from the cruise ship. The subsequent cave exploration, bamboo boat ride, and sunset party were also very enjoyable. However, it was a little disappointing to see how much the tranquil scenery of Ha Long Bay had changed since my visit 20 years ago.
With new tourist facilities, excellent service, and abundant meals, the scenery of Ha Long Bay is breathtaking, making for a comfortable and pleasant trip.
