The first store opened in 1988
COLD STONE CREAMERY was founded by Donald and Susan Sutherland, a couple who loved ice cream. Driven by their passion and dedication, they created high-quality ice cream with rich toppings and a creamy texture. To share this perfect and unique ice cream experience, Donald and Susan opened their first store in Tempe, Arizona, in 1988. They brought the unparalleled COLD STONE ice cream experience to customers and expanded into the Taiwan market in 2007.
The Origin of the Name COLD STONE
Donald and Susan Sutherland happened to have a friend who sold marble. They began researching how to use it for ice cream, experimenting with mixing and preparing ice cream on frozen granite slabs to create a variety of flavors. When thinking of a store name, their friend humorously suggested, 'Why not call it COLD STONE?'
