Established in 1983, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is the first public art museum in Taiwan. It is dedicated to the preservation, research, development, and promotion of modern and contemporary art in Taiwan. In addition to organizing the history of Taiwanese art over the past century, it also continuously focuses on developing contemporary art. By maintaining a global perspective, constructing regional contexts, supporting artistic talent, and promoting art education, the museum aims to foster the development of the art ecosystem, enhance the cultural and artistic literacy of the public, and contribute to a contemporary society with aesthetic appreciation, creativity, and critical thinking.

Located in the Yuanshan area by the Keelung River, the museum was designed by architect Kao Er-pan. The building features a minimalist, grey-white modernist style that incorporates the spirit of traditional Chinese courtyards. Using a cantilevered flying corridor design, it transforms the architectural element of dougong brackets into a 'well' (井) shaped main structure, symbolizing the museum as a source of cultural vitality. The lobby is bright and spacious, corresponding to the three floors above ground and one floor below ground, with glass curtain walls providing natural light. The atrium captures external light, presenting an ecological landscape with varying layers of greenery, creating a tranquil and natural public green space. The overall design is refined, magnificent, lightweight, and imbued with a scholarly atmosphere, perfectly integrated with the garden landscape.

The Taipei Fine Arts Museum organizes biennials that balance Taiwanese and global characteristics, as well as open call projects for art ecosystem connection and cultivation. It hosts domestic and international thematic exhibitions and touring exchange exhibitions to promote the flourishing development of modern and contemporary art in Taiwan. Furthermore, it employs age- and audience-specific strategies to plan various learning activities, including lectures, forums, guided tours, on-site exhibition dialogues, and various exploration/experience courses conducted through workshops.
