Lin Family Garden

The Lin Family Mansion & Garden boasts a rigorous architectural layout with beautiful proportions, utilizing precious camphor wood from mainland China and Taiwan as building materials. The interiors are sumptuously decorated with exquisite handcraftsmanship. The roofs feature a distinctive swallowtail design, representing top-tier architecture of the era in Taiwan. Within the garden, pavilions, terraces, buildings, and towers are ingeniously elegant, connected by winding corridors. The landscape, complete with artificial mountains and ponds, offers picturesque views everywhere, earning it the reputation of 'the finest garden in Taipei.'

Starting from August 1, 2017, the Lin Family Mansion & Garden charges a full ticket price of NT$80.

The Lin Family Mansion & Garden was built by the descendants of Lin Pinghou to avoid calamity. Among Lin Pinghou's five sons, brothers Lin Guohua and Lin Guofang were the most capable. In 1851, they began constructing the Sanluo Mansion in Fangqiao, moving in with their family upon its completion in 1853. Subsequently, in 1855, they started planning the construction of Fangqiao City to defend against harassment from the Quanzhou people, which laid the foundation for the development of the Lin Family Mansion & Garden.

Mr. Lin Hengdao, a descendant of Lin Pinghou, mentioned in an interview that Lin Pinghou had many sons, but only two biological sons: Guohua (the Third Master) and Guofang (the Fifth Master). The rest were adopted sons, confirming that Lin Guohua was Lin Pinghou's biological son.

The Lin Family Mansion & Garden is not only renowned for its exquisite architecture but also for its breathtaking garden landscapes. The cleverly designed pavilions, terraces, buildings, and towers, complemented by winding corridors, create a serene and intricate ambiance. The arrangement of artificial mountains and ponds results in captivating scenery everywhere, fully showcasing the artistic value of classical gardens.
