Nantou County's Guoxing Township was named in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties to commemorate an event where Zheng Chenggong dispatched his strategist Liu Guoxuan to lead troops to pacify the indigenous people here. At that time, the common people named the area 'Guoxing' or 'Guosheng'. The name 'Guoxing' continued to be used administratively during the Ming and Qing periods, and was officially changed to 'Guoxing Township' in 1946, belonging to Taichung County. After Nantou County was established in 1950, it became part of Nantou County.
