People rarely mention the Kanmon Strait Museum when visiting Moji Port, so I didn't have high expectations at first, but it turned out to be surprisingly fun! First, the interactive experience machines are diverse. Upstairs, the large screen shows a historical animated series (super well-made!) and ocean-themed music animations every half hour. Different themed time slots correspond to different games. My favorite was the head-swapping game in the historical series 😂 I never got tired of just drawing characters! While the museum's collection isn't huge, it provides a good understanding of the area's history. Downstairs, there are also ocean-related interactive games, more geared towards family-friendly experiences. In short, I highly recommend it; an afternoon is definitely not enough to see everything! 😖
Buying your tickets in advance and then exchanging them for physical tickets is incredibly time-saving and convenient. The exchange location is on the second floor of the Hakata Chikushi Exit (follow the pink signs on the floor). You'll see a pink counter. This is a newly opened window for foreign tourists, with Chinese-speaking staff, so it's no problem. You can also buy tickets here. The staff said not many people know about this place yet, so we hope everyone will take advantage of it! No more queuing at the green window!
The itinerary was well-timed. Akiyoshido Cave was stunning. The bus exited at the elevated entrance and we walked down, which was much easier than the bus, which requires a climb from the lower exit. The scenery also got better and better. The bridge and torii gate, combined with the good weather, made for great photos! Ishi-san was very helpful, attentive, and professional, which made the trip a truly enjoyable one.
