Malang

Malang is worth visiting, especially for a day trip around your travel to Mount Bromo. While it may not have the grand temples of Yogyakarta, Malang offers the chance to explore stunning waterfalls and immerse yourself in the rich culture of East Java.

You can comfortably spend about 4 days in Malang, and even longer if your schedule allows. Many travelers find that 3 nights isn't quite enough and wish for an extra day or two to explore further.

Malang is renowned for its fertile highland region, particularly around Batu city, which is a major producer of various fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and has a significant history of tea plantations dating back to the Dutch colonial era. The lowlands are productive for rice, corn, cassava, and sugarcane. The city of Malang itself has grown into a vital center for trade and industries.

For getting around Malang, fixed-route taxis known locally as 'Miko' are available throughout the city. Traditional taxis are not as prevalent as in larger tourist cities. You can also consider using bicycle rickshaws for shorter distances.

While not having the grand temples of some other Indonesian cities, Malang is celebrated for its natural beauty and cultural experiences. Key highlights include exploring breathtaking waterfalls like Coban Rondo, visiting the historic Dutch colonial architecture, and experiencing the vibrant local markets. The cooler highland climate near Batu also makes it a popular getaway.
