Product Info

  • Cajon Kobo ARCO, which crafts and sells handmade cajons in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, has developed an original cajon making kit that even beginners can easily assemble! Why not try your hand at making your own cajon? With guidance from a professional craftsman, anyone can complete it without mistakes. In this 90-minute course, the first half is spent assembling the cajon using screws and wood glue. During the second half, while the glue dries, you will learn about the history of the cajon and how to play it. It is a fun activity to enjoy with your children.
  • What is a Cajon?
  • 'Cajon' means 'box' or 'drawer' in Spanish. Originating in South America in the 1800s as a substitute for a drum, it developed particularly in the coastal regions of Peru. In the 1970s, the cajon was brought from Brazil to Spain, where it was embraced by the flamenco world and spread from Europe to the rest of the world. Today, it is incorporated into various genres of music due to its accessibility.♪
  • Cajon Making
  • Why not experience making a wooden percussion cajon in Ishinomaki, the home of ARCO Cajons? In this plan, you will assemble a regular-sized cajon (30cm wide x 30cm deep x 40cm high). Using a full-adhesive assembly method, anyone can build it easily without any mistakes!
  • Playing Technique Lecture
  • After crafting, there will be a simple lecture on how to play the cajon (introductory level). Enjoy both crafting and playing together with all the participants!♪
