Xiaoliuqiu Island is a coral island located off the southwestern coast of Taiwan, in the Taiwan Strait. It is administratively part of Pingtung County. Known for its clear waters, diverse coral reefs, and resident green sea turtle population, it's a popular destination for snorkeling, diving, and other water activities.
To travel from Taipei to Xiaoliuqiu Island, first take the High-Speed Rail (HSR) from Taipei HSR Station to Zuoying (Kaohsiung) HSR Station. This journey typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. From Zuoying HSR Station, you will need to take a shuttle or taxi to Donggang Ferry Terminal, which is the gateway to Xiaoliuqiu. The drive from Zuoying to Donggang takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
From Zuoying High-Speed Rail (HSR) Station, you can take a pre-booked shuttle service, a local bus (such as Kenting Express), or a taxi directly to Donggang Ferry Terminal. If you are starting from Kaohsiung City, you can also take a bus or taxi to Donggang Ferry Terminal. The journey from either location to Donggang usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
The ferry journey from Donggang Ferry Terminal to Xiaoliuqiu Island is relatively short. On average, the ride takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes, making it a quick and convenient trip across the sea. There are both public and private ferry services available, with frequent departures throughout the day.
The most popular and convenient way to get around Xiaoliuqiu Island is by renting a scooter or an electric bicycle. The island is small enough to explore thoroughly with these options. Alternatively, you can hire a private car with a driver for a guided tour or use the local taxi services for specific destinations. Walking is also an option for exploring smaller areas, especially coastal paths and villages.
