Only 4 days a year! Shirakawa-go Illumination event—don't miss out! A snow-covered Gassho village with warm yellow lights creating a dreamlike scene.
[Note] This itinerary does not include the evening observation deck ticket, and it cannot be purchased on-site. Please be aware of this.
Our private vehicle departs on time, heading north to the snowy secret realm of the Hida region. The first stop is Hida Takayama, known as 'Little Kyoto,' which perfectly preserves the traditional style of the Edo period. Along the streets, craft shops display dyed fabrics, wood carvings, and other unique items. Take a bite of melt-in-your-mouth Hida beef sushi and experience the tender, fatty aroma of top-grade Wagyu.
Next, we will head to the World Heritage site—Shirakawa-go Gassho Village. The buildings here are named for their steep, triangular thatched roofs that resemble hands pressed together in prayer. They were built without a single nail, relying on precise joinery to withstand centuries of snow.
As twilight falls, the most anticipated illumination moment arrives. As the warm yellow lights flicker on one by one, the entire village instantly transforms into a real-life fairy tale world. Stroll across the stone bridge over the Shokawa River to see the light reflections on the frozen water, or stop on the path behind Myozenji Temple to capture the Zen-like scene of the Gassho houses and the temple eaves in one frame. Every frame of the warm lights against the snow is worth cherishing.
We provide an intimate Chinese-speaking small group of up to 9 people with a well-paced itinerary, allowing you to easily experience the nature, magic, and romance of Shirakawa-go in one trip.
