Product Info

Step into the lesser-known mountain forest gem of Nara—【Tenkawa Village】, escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and experience the natural scenery woven together by clear streams, ancient shrines, and mountain worship.

First, visit the 【Tenkawa Daibenzaiten Shrine】, which has a thousand-year history. As one of the three great Benzaiten shrines in Japan, you can feel the rich history, culture, and spiritual atmosphere. Next, head to 【Mitarai Valley】 to stroll freely among the streams, suspension bridges, and forest trails, and enjoy the representative gorge scenery of the Kinki region.

In the afternoon, you can head to the 【Menfudo Limestone Cave】 and ride the charming monorail to explore the mysterious underground world. If the limestone cave is closed due to equipment maintenance, weather, or other force majeure factors, it will be changed to 【free time in the Dorogawa Onsen district and Ryusen-ji Temple】, where you can experience the Showa-era hot spring town and Shugendo culture.

Whether you are a traveler who loves natural scenery, light hiking, or wants to delve into the hidden culture of Nara, you will gain unforgettable memories on this journey.

【Notes on Attractions】

  • Please pay attention to safety on hiking trails: Mitarai Valley is a natural mountain valley trail, and some sections are mountain paths and stairs. Please wear non-slip, comfortable shoes to avoid slipping.
  • Significant weather impact: The valley and limestone cave areas are significantly affected by weather. In rainy weather, the ground may be slippery, or some areas may be temporarily restricted. Please follow the safety instructions on-site.
  • Please arrange your free time reasonably: Each attraction is for self-guided visiting. Please return within the specified meeting time, as being late may affect the subsequent itinerary.
  • Prepare a jacket for temperature differences: The limestone cave is around 8℃ all year round, so it is cool even in summer; please prepare a light jacket. The temperature difference between morning and evening in the valley is also significant.
  •  Note on the choice between two items: The Dorogawa Onsen district/Ryusen-ji Temple and the Menfudo Limestone Cave are a choice between two. If the limestone cave is closed or operation is adjusted, the visiting content will be adjusted uniformly.
A mountain building stands beside a road in 天川村, with a covered entrance and steps.

A visitor stands beside a wooden walkway inside Menfudo Limestone Cave, viewing the rocky passage and limestone formations.
A pedestrian suspension bridge spans a forested valley along a 天川村徒步 route, with stone entrance pillars bearing inscriptions.
A red bridge leads to the vermilion gate of Tenkawa Dai Benzaiten Shrine, surrounded by trees in autumn foliage.
