  • Enjoy a full day by kayak through Japan's largest and most diverse mangrove forest. Some people may ask, "Isn't a sightseeing boat enough?" But no, it's not like that at all (lol). By paddling in a kayak, you can enter narrow, shallow tributaries that boats can't reach, and even go all the way to the upper reaches. On the Urauchi River, you can get out of the kayak to see waterfalls and visit remains of old forestry and coal mining. On the Nakama River, you can see the 400-year-old Sakishimasu Heronoki tree, the largest in Japan (a famous tree with impressive, plank-like roots), and climb up to an observation deck to look out over the vast mangrove forest. Iriomote Island is home to Japan's one-of-a-kind mangrove forest, so why not take advantage of the opportunity to spend a day exploring it?
  • I'll enjoy the day!
  • On this tour, you'll spend the whole day enjoying the mangrove forest basin. You'll be amazed by the richness of nature, from the changing scenery of the sunlight filtering through the trees to the tidal flats and river creatures. However, the rivers of Iriomote Island are greatly affected by the ocean tides. If you're planning a full-day tour, we strongly recommend avoiding spring tides and choosing a day with neap tides. If it's a spring tide day (full moon or new moon), we recommend either trekking only or mangrove kayaking and trekking.
  • Travel along Okinawa's largest river: Urauchi River
  • The tour mainly focuses on observing mangroves in the estuary area. The abundance of wildlife in the Urauchi River, which includes sharks and large migratory fish, is truly remarkable. In fact, it is said to be the river with the greatest number of fish species in Japan.
  • Nakama River: A pristine river where you can feel the expanse of a vast mangrove forest
  • It is the second longest river in Japan, boasting the largest mangrove forest and the largest catchment area on Iriomote Island. There are no easily accessible waterfalls, but it is an ideal place for observing nature, with tributaries overgrown with mangroves and creatures living in the vast tidal flats.
