Highly recommended. Our tour guide, Xiao Su, provided a very detailed introduction and even told the story of the Takachiho myth. She also gave detailed explanations of the surrounding non-tourist attractions.
Because of the large group, hiring a car and planning your own itinerary to visit more distant attractions and hotels is really easy and convenient. They'll notify you before departure to create a LINE group, so you don't have to worry about not being able to contact the driver. Highly recommended.
The entire trip includes bus transportation, so there's no need to worry about getting around. The time allotted at each attraction is also quite reasonable. Since Mount Aso wasn't open yet, we went to Kami-Shikimi Kumanozha Shrine instead. Note that if you join the Takachiho cruise, you must eat at a restaurant in Kusasenri or bring your own lunch to eat on the bus; otherwise, you might not have enough time to eat in Takachiho. Our guide, Yang, provided very detailed explanations and took great care of everyone, constantly checking on us to see how we were doing.
We didn't visit the Aso crater, but we did visit other scenic spots. Our guide, Xiaoyu, provided very thorough explanations, and we had ample time at each site. We had lunch in Kusasenri, which had beautiful scenery. We drove past Mount Yonezuka, and finally parted ways at Kurokawa Onsen. Almost half the group also left the bus there. It's helpful to inform the guide in advance, as they will arrange hotel pick-up and drop-off, etc., which is really convenient.
