Asuwa River Cherry Blossom Avenue: The highlight of spring in Fukui, with around 600 cherry trees stretching 2.2 km along the river.
The Asuwa River flows through the heart of Fukui City. Along its embankment—between Kida Bridge and Shinmeisato Bridge—stands the famous Asuwa River Cherry Blossom Avenue, stretching 2.2 km with around 600 cherry trees. Near Kagetsu Bridge in particular, large Somei Yoshino trees line both sides of the riverbank, forming a magnificent pink tunnel at full bloom.
In 1990, it was selected as one of the “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan,” and today it remains a beloved symbol of Fukui City.
Best viewing period (average year): Late March to early April.
Manyo no Sato Ajimanoen: A beautiful spring collaboration of pale pink cherry blossoms and pure white skunk cabbage in full bloom.
★ Guided tour included!
Manyo no Sato Ajimanoen is a public park developed in the Ajimano area, a place associated with the ancient Manyoshu poetry anthology.
On the west side of the park, next to Ajimano Shrine, stands a statue of Emperor Keitai and Teruhi no Mae. The area where the two bronze figures stand facing each other was designated in 2018 as a “love power spot.”
This strolling-style garden, designed around gentle hills, offers more than just cherry blossoms in spring—you can also enjoy seasonal plants such as skunk cabbage (mizubasho).
Best viewing period (average year): Cherry blossoms: Late March to early April / Skunk cabbage: Late March to early April
Shopping in Fukui: Enjoy shopping at a long-established local store and sample Fukui’s regional specialties.
