ー Restaurant Introduction ー
The name 'Zen-en' actually has a deep connection to China. The owner named it after the 'Shao Shuai Zen Garden' (the former residence of Zhang Xueliang in Taiwan). (Built in 1920, the 'Shao Shuai Zen Garden' became the place of confinement for Zhang Xueliang and his wife starting in 1960, hence the name.) 'Zen-en' is highly selective about its ingredients. The current head chef, who comes from a renowned culinary background, brings exceptional skill to the kitchen. Under his guidance, the restaurant updates its set menus monthly, selecting the best seasonal ingredients to create dishes that embody the changing seasons. The signature dish, Natural Sea Bream Rice, uses wild sea bream from the Akashi Strait known for its superior texture. Seasoned only with sake and salt, it is cooked in a special clay pot over an open flame, allowing the savory essence of the bream to fully infuse every grain of rice—a truly rare and delicious delicacy. Beyond the taste, every dish is meticulously plated, with the color combinations of ingredients and tableware designed to impress. The quiet and comfortable Japanese-style interior is another highlight, making the dining experience itself a pleasure.
