Some guesthouses or hotels may offer shuttle services, and limited taxi services are also present.
To travel from Taipei to Xiaoliuqiu, it is recommended to first take the High-Speed Rail (HSR) from Taipei HSR Station to Zuoying (Kaohsiung) HSR Station. From Zuoying, take a bus or taxi to Donggang Ferry Terminal. The final leg involves a ferry ride from Donggang to Baisha Port in Xiaoliuqiu. The entire journey typically takes about 3 to 4 hours, not including transfer waiting times.
From Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station, you can take a shuttle bus (such as the Pingtung Bus) or a taxi directly to Donggang Ferry Terminal. The bus journey takes approximately 40-60 minutes, while a taxi is quicker, taking about 30-40 minutes. Once at Donggang, you will take a ferry to Xiaoliuqiu's Baisha Port.
The main departure point for ferries to Xiaoliuqiu is the Donggang Ferry Terminal in Pingtung County. There are two types of ferries: public ferries and private ferries, both departing from Donggang to Baisha Port on Xiaoliuqiu. Donggang is easily accessible from major cities like Kaohsiung and Pingtung by bus or taxi.
The ferry journey from Donggang to Xiaoliuqiu generally takes about 25-30 minutes. Both public and private ferries operate frequently throughout the day, usually departing every 30-60 minutes during peak hours and holidays. It's advisable to check the latest ferry schedule in advance, especially outside of peak seasons.
From Kaohsiung city, you can take a bus (e.g., Pingtung Bus, Kaohsiung Bus) from various points, including Kaohsiung Main Station, directly to Donggang Ferry Terminal. Alternatively, taking a taxi or booking a private car transfer offers a more direct and convenient option, especially if traveling with luggage. The journey by road typically takes about 45-60 minutes.
At Donggang Ferry Terminal, there are several paid parking lots available for both cars and motorcycles. These parking facilities offer various durations, from daily to overnight parking, to accommodate travelers. It is generally recommended to park at these designated lots before boarding the ferry, as bringing private vehicles to Xiaoliuqiu is less common due to the small size of the island and rental options available there.
While there is some limited public bus service on Xiaoliuqiu, it is not as extensive or frequent as in larger cities. Most tourists opt for rental scooters or bicycles for convenience and flexibility. Some accommodations may provide shuttle services to specific attractions or from the port. For diving experiences, instructors often arrange meeting points or provide localized transportation assistance.
