The Kankakei Ropeway is a must-see attraction on Shodoshima Island. The ride takes about 5 minutes, and as the ropeway slowly ascends, you can enjoy panoramic views of the entire Kankakei Gorge. The surrounding mountains are layered and lush, offering a breathtakingly expansive vista that makes you feel as if you're stepping into a natural masterpiece. At the summit, the observation deck offers stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and the mountains of Shodoshima, a truly invigorating experience. Even outside of autumn foliage season, the ropeway offers different scenery in each season: verdant green in spring and summer, vibrant red leaves in autumn, and tranquil mountain forests in winter. Overall, the Kankakei Ropeway is not only conveniently located but also provides easy access to one of Japan's three most beautiful valleys, making it a highly recommended addition to your Shodoshima itinerary. It's a natural attraction that combines healing and awe.
Although the weather wasn't great—overcast and drizzling—having a chartered car was very convenient. We originally planned to go to Ziyun Chushan, but gave up due to the bad weather. However, even though there were many dark clouds at the Lion Spirit Observatory, it was still worth it, and the green-plated car was safe and reliable.
Although I don't understand Japanese, there is a Chinese audio guide. The tour leader was friendly, and the driver drove smoothly 😊. Although there is no tax-free shopping on the island, they give out coupons for local products shops at Tuzhuang Port and Hanxia Creek Cable Car Station.
