This was my first time joining a local tour. Since the places we visited required driving or taking a long bus ride, and I wasn't very familiar with the local history and culture, I wanted to take my family to a more in-depth visit to Neuschwanstein Castle and explore the local culture and history. So I signed up for this tour. Here are the pros and cons for you to know. Please read the cons first in your review, because this is probably the worst-case scenario:
Cons:
1. Did I think it was a small group? Actually, it was a large bus carrying nearly 40 people, in various groups including individuals, couples, and families. Seating was on a first-come, first-served basis.
2. Because there were no wireless microphones, everyone had to be close to the tour guide to hear what was happening.
3. Time was limited; to take photos and listen to the guide's explanations, you really needed to be quick, efficient, and precise.
Advantages:
1. Guide Zhang's explanations of history and culture were professional and engaging.
2. Although it was a bus, the German driver drove smoothly and professionally.
3. The itinerary was tight but not uncomfortable (except for some passengers not listening, running around, and being late).
4. Guide Zhang also recommended beer, garden restaurants, and shared his actual reviews (which were exactly the same as our own experiences). He even mentioned a law enacted in 1516 regarding beer.
5. The sites themselves are fantastic World Heritage sites, and with Guide Zhang's in-depth explanations, we had a very enjoyable, rewarding, and insightful experience.
6. Guide Zhang also helped groups of tourists who wanted to take photos, and the photos he took were of professional quality (he was probably a photographer on the side).
7. Guide Zhang suggested times for taking photos, and if everyone adhered to these, there was plenty of time (for example, waiting at the Marian Bridge). Other:
1. There's no toilet on the bus, but each attraction will inform you of free restrooms; just be mindful of the time.
2. Don't worry if you don't bring your own water; the driver sells it (1.5 euros a bottle). While slightly more expensive than in supermarkets, it's better than buying it for 2.5-3 euros a bottle after visiting a scenic spot.
3. Tipping is optional. Since the driver and guide were very attentive throughout the day, tipping wasn't mandatory!
In summary, the overall experience was excellent, but it depends heavily on the guide's ability. If KKday continues to use the same company, it's a good option.
