  • Takachiho Gorge
Located in the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture, Takachiho is widely known as the stage for ancient Japanese mythology. Within Amano Iwato Shrine in Takachiho village, there is a cave made of rock, said to be the dwelling place of the angry deity in the 'Amano Iwato Legend,' which describes the world falling into darkness. Takachiho Shrine holds nightly Yokagura performances, where songs and dances are offered to the gods to pray for a bountiful harvest, making it a land of myths that inherits the worldview of ancient legends. Takachiho Gorge, designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, is located here. It features a V-shaped canyon formed by volcanic activity from Mount Aso in ancient times, and you can explore the bottom of the gorge by rental boat.
  • Recommended spots around Takachiho Gorge:
    - Takachiho Gorge Boat Ride: You can view the waterfalls and scenery of Takachiho Gorge up close. Guests must reach the boarding point on their own, queue, and pay for the boat ride experience.
