- The course is for beginners and those that have experience but would like some additional instruction and to get their NSW boat licence. Full Course (Practical and Theory) Start with a 2 hour practical session on the water with a qualified and knowledgeable instructor. In the afternoon you will do the theory section of the course before completing the Power Boating theory test to get signed off on your licence. Don't worry too much if you fail the test first time, you get two tries on the day or can comeback on subsequent days to try again. Practical - Safety and preparation (kill cord, life jackets, trip preparation..) - Low-speed manoeuvres (coming alongside, turning in confined space, holding station, using spring lines, towing, anchoring, pickup mooring..) - High-speed manoeuvres (safety, handling at speed, trim, stability, swell & waves, bar crossings..) - Application of collision regulations whilst underway - Emergencies (man overboard, radio, responsibilities) Theory will include - Types of craft (hull types, and handling characteristics) - Parts of the boat (terminology) - Engines (types, basic maintenance and fault finding) - Launching (boat trailers, tides,..) - Personal equipment (clothing, lifejackets..) - Basic weather (forecasts, sea state, effect of wind and tide) - Collision regulations and buoyage - Navigation and passage planning (calculate course, tides, chart plotter) - Trip preparation
