Product Info
- The Marugame Uchiwa fan became popular over 400 years ago as a souvenir for pilgrims visiting Konpira. A distinctive feature of the Marugame Uchiwa is that it is crafted from a single piece of bamboo, undergoing 47 separate processes. Today, it is designated as a National Traditional Craft and accounts for 90% of the domestic market share. This is a special program where you can learn about its history and experience 5 characteristic steps under the guidance of a master artisan. 〜Experience Flow〜 10:00 / 13:00 Introduction of the Artisan Reception starts 10 minutes before the experience. The artisan will introduce themselves and explain the program. ⇩ 10:10 / 13:10 History Watch a video about the history of the Uchiwa fan. ⇩ 10:25 / 13:25 Weaving Tie thread to the bamboo to weave the fan ribs. ⇩ 10:40 / 13:40 Pasting Apply glue to the paper and attach it to both sides of the fan frame. ⇩ 10:50 / 13:50 Demonstration of Splitting and Folding Experience Watch a demonstration of splitting by the artisan and try the most difficult step, folding. ⇩ 11:10 / 14:10 Finishing Cut the fan into shape with a sickle and apply the trim to finish.
