The name of Hitachi Station does indeed have a historical connection to the Japanese brand 'Hitachi'. Hitachi City was the birthplace of the Hitachi company, and the name 'Hitachi' itself is derived from the local Hitachi Shrine, meaning 'sunrise'. Therefore, the station, the city, and the company all share this auspicious name, symbolizing the area's cultural heritage and industrial development.
The peak season for the stunning golden foliage of the ginkgo avenue is usually from mid-November to early December each year. During this period, the ginkgo leaves turn a brilliant golden yellow, creating a spectacular golden tunnel that is perfect for photos and enjoying the autumn scenery. Actual timing may vary slightly due to annual climate conditions.
Generally, when visiting the ginkgo avenue in October, the leaves are mostly still green or just beginning to turn yellow. To witness a full display of lush golden ginkgo trees, it's recommended to plan your visit from mid-November onwards, when the colors will be more vibrant and the viewing experience will be at its best, allowing you to fully appreciate the charm of the avenue.
The ginkgo leaves at the ginkgo avenue can typically be admired until about early to mid-December. As the temperature drops, the leaves gradually fall. Therefore, if you want to see the most complete golden scenery, it's best to complete your trip before mid-December to capture the best autumn colors.
By late December, most of the ginkgo leaves at the ginkgo avenue may have already fallen, making it difficult to see the spectacular sight of trees full of golden foliage. While you might see a carpet of fallen yellow leaves on the ground, the overall viewing experience will be significantly less impressive than from mid-November to early December. It's advisable to consider the viewing season when planning your itinerary.
Nakaminato Fish Market is renowned for its fresh seafood. Here, you can savor freshly caught and grilled oysters, scallops, or indulge in a rich seafood rice bowl, experiencing the exquisite flavors of the fishing port. Additionally, the market has many shops selling dried goods and souvenirs, making it an ideal place to experience the lively atmosphere of a Japanese fishing port and purchase local specialties.
Hananuki Gorge is known for its clear streams and abundant natural vegetation; its autumn foliage is particularly beautiful. The Shinryu Suspension Bridge is a pedestrian bridge spanning the gorge, offering panoramic views of the valley from above and allowing visitors to feel the tranquility and magnificence of the forest. This spot is also a prime location for photography enthusiasts to capture the interplay of autumn colors, streams, and the suspension bridge.
Ushiku Daibutsu is not only grand in appearance but also features various exhibition spaces inside. You can enter the Buddha's interior to view displays of world Buddhist statues, experience the tranquility of copying sutras, and ascend to the observation deck on the Buddha's chest (approximately 85 meters high) to admire the surrounding pastoral scenery and seasonal views through the windows. There is also a small animal park and beautiful gardens around the Great Buddha for leisurely strolls.
