See Oahu’s southeastern coastline on a self guided hiking and sightseeing experience that combines the Makapuu Point Trail with a photo stop at Halona Blowhole. With round trip shuttle service from Waikiki included, this tour offers an easy way to reach one of the island’s most scenic coastal walks without worrying about parking. Expect wide ocean views, volcanic landmarks, and a chance to explore at your own pace.
After departing Waikiki, travel along the coast toward Makapuu for your hike. The 2.5 mile round trip trail follows paved paths with about 500 feet of elevation gain. As you climb, enjoy views of Koko Head Crater, Rabbit Island, and the Pacific Ocean. The route can be hot, dry, and windy in exposed sections, so comfortable clothing and sun protection are recommended. A bottle of water is included, and on clear days you may even see the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai in the distance.
Along the trail, photograph the historic Makapuu Lighthouse and keep an eye out for humpback whales between November and April. During the outing, you will also stop at Halona Blowhole, where waves crash through the lava rock coastline and send water into the air.
